Civic-patriotic education is a very important component in the process of formation of a fully developed person. Education of citizens is a top priority tusk for modern education institution. The main element of a rapid changing and developing world is a person with systemic global thinking, the foundations of a scientific worldview, national self-consciousness.
Techers must create all the necessary conditions for young people to develop their future lifestyle, respect and interest to saving of historic and cultural heritage of their fatherland and achievements of their ancestors.
Particular attention is paid to the preservation of the historical memory of the events of the Great Patriotic War. While participating in search teams, studying in military-patriotic clubs, the guys explore the military history of their native land, join the great feat of the Belarusian people and equal their best representatives.
Discussing the priority areas of activities of educational institutions for the military-patriotic education of children and youth, experts note that each region has its own peculiarity in holding certain patriotic events.
So, according to the head of the main department of educational work and youth policy of the Ministry of Education, Viktor Dovnar, such events become certain brands of their districts. Now, for example, competitions of banner groups, in which students demonstrate knowledge of state symbols and historical events, have become new and interesting forms of entertainment.
For two years Belarus has been actively working on the creation and development of military-patriotic clubs. The Ministry of Education, together with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, developed and approved model regulations on military-patriotic clubs and a program for their activities. On the territory of the military units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, 18 military-patriotic clubs operate today, involving more than 1.5 thousand people. Also, 11 clubs have been created at the military units of the Ministry of Defense, involving more than 500 children. And this work continues - clubs are created under the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
Also, amendments have been made to the provisions on the cadet school and the Suvorov school, providing for the possibility of preferential admission of pupils of such clubs to military specialties. “This is definitely a breakthrough and an educational moment for patriotic education among our youth,” Viktor Dovnar is convinced.
In addition, 755 military-patriotic interest associations work in educational institutions with a total coverage of more than 11 thousand pupils. Another area of educational activity is museums. To date, there are 1,424 museums in the educational institutions of the country, including 209 museums of a military history profile. Museums and museum expositions have been created in 30 educational institutions of the country, which cover the military events in Afghanistan. In 2011, educational institutions created expositions dedicated to the victims of the genocide of the Belarusian people.
An important direction of educational work with youth is search activity. In the country, 520 search associations have been created in institutions of general secondary education, in which more than 5 thousand students are engaged.
In order to instill in young people respect for statehood, respect for traditions, a large number of events were arranged at the initiative of the Ministry of Education, including as part of the program of patriotic education of the population of Belarus for 2022-2025. So, in 2022, most of the events were initiated by the youth themselves. These are the labor action “Belarus Remembers Everyone” for the improvement of the memorial complex “Khatyn”, the youth construction project “Village Cemeteries”, student days “I value Belarus”.
In 2023, the Year of Peace and Creation became a continuation of the Year of Historical Memory. Educational institutions are planning to conduct dozens of events.
According to the Deputy Head of the Department of Educational and Ideological Work of the National Institute of Education Yuri Emelianenko, an important aspect of the formation of citizenship and patriotism among schoolchildren is the use of materials of a criminal case on the investigation of the facts of the genocide of the Belarusian people during the Great Patriotic War.
In grades 1-4, during literature classes, students read texts about the events of the Great Patriotic War, the list of works for extracurricular reading includes books on a military theme, for example, the book "Never Forget".
When studying the subject “People and the world. Maya homeland – Belarus” 4th grade students will learn about the events that took place in 1943 in Khatyn, about the German concentration camp for children in the village of Krasny Bereg.
Systemically, issues related to the genocide of the Belarusian people are studied in the 9th and 11th grades at the lessons of the history of Belarus. Historical information is supplemented by the study of literary works devoted to the theme of the Great Patriotic War, during the lessons on the subjects "Belarusian Literature" and "Russian Literature" in grades 5-11.
By the 80th anniversary of the tragic events institutions of general secondary education will give a single lesson "What the bells of Khatyn ring". In addition, there will be a memory lesson “We are bequeathed to protect this world”, dedicated to the 78th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
“I am sure that the joint work of the department and teachers will instill in the hearts of our children love for their native country,” summed up Viktor Dovnar.
