On the eve of National Unity Day, the Ministry of Education held a meeting with the well‑known Belarusian historian, rector of the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Belarus, Denis Duk.

Representatives of the sectoral education system discussed the historical prerequisites for the reunification of Belarusian lands, the events of 1939, as well as the importance of preserving historical truth and the continuity of generations in modern realities. The guest spoke in detail about the struggle of Belarusians to preserve their national identity within Poland and about how the reunification of Western and Eastern Belarus became an act of historical justice.

“History clearly shows what the loss of national identity and language leads to. The reunification of the Belarusian lands was a natural outcome of our people’s centuries‑long struggle. Today, this holiday reminds us of the main truth: if we are united, we will not be divided. And that means we will live in a peaceful and sovereign country,” Denis Duk emphasized.

Education Minister Andrei Ivanets emphasized the role of teachers and educational institutions in fostering patriotism: “We must remember history and preserve the continuity of generations so that the tragic lessons of the past do not repeat themselves in the future. It is the school and university that become the foundation on which love for the Motherland and an understanding of the value of peace are built.”

Education is the most important tool for preserving historical memory. It is through knowledge of their past that new generations come to understand the value of independence, sovereignty, and the unity of the Belarusian people.
