From October 19 to 24, Saransk will host the final stage of the Union State Olympiad for schoolchildren, titled ‘Russia and Belarus: Historical and Spiritual Commonality.” The event is organized by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus and the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation.
The intellectual and creative competitions will feature 137 high school students (grades 10–11) from Belarus and Russia. Representing Belarus will be 48 winners of the qualifying round, hailing from all regions of the country, the city of Minsk, and the F.E. Dzerzhinsky Lyceum of the Belarusian State University (BSU).
The Olympiad program includes two mandatory rounds—a comprehensive examination in the Russian language and literature, and an essay-writing task—as well as a contest in rhetorical skills. A distinguished jury, composed of leading scholars and educators from both nations, will evaluate the students' knowledge and talents.
In addition to the academic components, participants will enjoy a rich cultural program. The students will explore the history and traditions of Mordovia and take part in “friendship evenings.” On the opening day, a civic-patriotic event will be held, featuring a flower-laying ceremony at the Eternal Flame at the Memorial Complex dedicated to the soldiers from Mordovia who fell during the Great Patriotic War.
The Olympiad serves to strengthen bonds of friendship among the youth, preserve historical memory, and foster a unified educational space within the Union State.
It is worth noting that in 2025, the final stage of the Olympiad took place on Belarusian soil, with the city of Vitebsk serving as a hospitable host to the participants.
