Education for the future of the country

The Ministry of Education continues to support initiatives aimed at preserving, developing, and promoting the Belarusian language—the foundation of the nation's identity and its spiritual security. One notable initiative that has resonated widely with the public is the “Language Chain” project (also known as the “Native Chain” or “Chain of Native Words”). It is being actively implemented in educational institutions across the country, driven by the participants of the educational process themselves.

The essence of this initiative lies in symbolically uniting students, educators, and parents into a single chain—a chain of people who genuinely love their native language and use it in their daily lives. As part of this campaign, kindergartens and schools regularly host thematic weeks dedicated to the Belarusian language and literature, along with quizzes, educational games, and contests focused on proficiency in the native tongue. The “Word of the Week” format is particularly popular; through it, educational institutions introduce children and their families to the profound meaning and beauty of specific Belarusian words—such as *matulya* (dear mother), *pyashchota* (tenderness), or *kalykhanka* (lullaby)—that have been passed down from generation to generation.

Family involvement is a key component of the project. Parents and children create short videos demonstrating how the native language is spoken in their homes, sharing them on social media under a common hashtag. This not only helps popularize the living Belarusian language but also strengthens intergenerational bonds, preserving the language as an invaluable heritage from our ancestors.

Such initiatives hold significant educational value. They foster a lasting interest in the native language among participants, while cultivating respect for cultural heritage and a sense of pride in one's country.
