Very soon our country will celebrate the 80th anniversary of liberation from the Nazi invaders. For three long years (1941-1944) the Belarusian land was under the fascist dictatorship. We, citizens of sovereign Belarus, remember and honor the feat of fallen and living, famous and nameless Belarusians - soldiers of the Great Patriotic War, partisans and underground fighters. We pay tribute to everyone who fought with the brutal enemies and liberated the country from the Nazi invaders.

And no matter how much time passes, the Great Victory will always unite people of different generations. We are faithful to this memory! Belarusians keep it in every home! May 9 is a special day for every Belarusian family!

A single lesson will be dedicated to this significant date, which will take place on May 7 and 8 in all Belarusian schools.

The venue will be museums of educational institutions, museum rooms, and libraries. In the room where the lesson will be held, there will be thematic exhibitions of books, such as “The pages of books will tell about the war”, a children’s drawing “And we cannot forget the war”, a book exhibition-panorama “Belarus is our pride and glory”, a historical -local history exhibition “Liberation of the Beloved City”, photo zone “Soldier’s Rest”.

The key aspect is to instill in students citizenship and patriotism, pride in the heroic past of the Motherland, readiness to serve for the benefit of their people, and the formation of an understanding of the value of peace on Earth.
The single lesson program is developed for three age categories: 1st - 4th grade, 5th - 8th grade and 9th - 11th grade.

During the information hour, kids will learn that Belarus was one of the first to take the massive blow of the fascist invaders, becoming the scene of the largest battles. The first to repel the enemy's attack were the border guards and the advanced units of the covering troops. Enemy aircraft bombed railway junctions, airfields, as well as cities such as Brest, Grodno, Volkovysk, Baranovichi and others. After the beginning of the occupation, resistance to the enemy, unprecedented in its mass and tenacity, began in Belarus. The main form of national struggle was the partisan movement, in which more than 370 thousand partisans took part during the Great Patriotic War, and the anti-fascist underground had over 70 thousand people.

During the war, the enemy destroyed at least 216 settlements and more than 9.2 thousand villages on the territory of Belarus. The Nazis carried out over 140 punitive operations in Belarus. The Khatyn memorial complex became a tragic symbol of the mass destruction of civilians. There were about 250 Soviet prisoner of war camps and at least 580 death camps on the territory of Belarus. Among them is the fourth largest Nazi camp in Europe, Trostenets, where 206.5 thousand people were killed.

34.4 million Soviet military personnel took part in hostilities during the war, including over 1.3 million Belarusians and natives of our country.

During a single lesson dedicated to Victory Day, schoolchildren will reflect on what heroism is, where its origins are, and why it is so important right now to carefully preserve the memory of the actions of the generation of winners. The quiz “Monuments to the heroic and tragic events of the Great Patriotic War in Belarus” will also be educational. In addition, teachers will invite students to make postcards “We are faithful to memory.” They will be based on a dove as a symbol of peace.

At the end of the lesson, the children will discuss participation in the republican heroic-patriotic event “Great Victory - 80!”, which is held in educational institutions of the country as part of the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders and the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War. It is aimed at preserving historical memory and perpetuating the feat of the Belarusian people. The event will last until May 2025.

The memory of the terrible war and the Great Victory cannot fade. It is forever inscribed in the history of the Fatherland and every Belarusian family. The tragedy experienced and the Victory achieved is pain and bitterness, pride and glory of the Belarusian people.
