Anna Boyko, Deputy Head of the Main Directorate for Vocational Education and Head of the Department for Vocational, Technical, and Secondary Specialized Education at the Ministry of Education of Belarus, told journalists today during a press tour of the National Press Center at the Minsk State Mechanical and Technological College about the most in-demand specialties among applicants this year.

She noted:

"This academic year, the admissions campaign was successful. I would like to note the high demand for blue-collar jobs. This is the result of the meticulous and systematic work of educational institutions and organizations that commission personnel, providing career guidance and informing parents and children about new professions and developments.

Applicants also took into account the university's material and technical infrastructure, which meets all the requirements of modern technological processes. It was also important for the students that they can earn their first salary during their first year of internship. All of this contributed to the demand for blue-collar jobs. The leading fields are engineering, manufacturing, and construction technologies, education, healthcare, agriculture, and veterinary science." Anna Boyko noted that specialties for the real sector of the economy account for at least 70% of the vocational education intake.

"38,300 applicants have been enrolled in secondary vocational education. And don't forget that the admissions campaign for the agriculture and veterinary science programs for correspondence courses begins on October 15th," she added.
The speaker listed the most in-demand programs at the secondary vocational education level:

"Information and communications technology, law, education, healthcare, architecture, and construction. The average admission score has increased from 6 to 10. It is highest in the following programs: engineering and processing technologies, education, healthcare, and management, finance, and business."

At the vocational education level, construction and mechanical engineering are also leading. The competition was two applicants per place.

Anna Boyko noted:

"It's worth noting that this admissions campaign, taking into account the analysis of labor needs in the real sector of the economy and the demographic situation, increased the number of places by approximately 1,500. At the time of admission, the Ministry of Education increased the number of vocational education students by approximately 800. Therefore, the numbers have increased: approximately 29,800 applicants were enrolled in vocational education."
