Minsk, 4 December. The Ministry of Education of Belarus and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of Algeria signed an agreement in Algiers 3 December. During the bilateral meeting, Belarusian Education Minister Andrei Ivanets and Algerian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Kamel Baddari discussed prospects for expanding mutually beneficial cooperation in higher education, science, and personnel training.
Currently, over 1.6 million students study in Algeria's higher education system and more than 70% of them reading natural sciences and engineering. This creates a solid foundation for deepening the partnership between the two countries' universities.
As Andrei Ivanets noted, five leading universities and higher national scientific schools have already been established in Algeria in priority areas: artificial intelligence, mathematics, nanomaterials, aviation technology, and physics.
"Our Algerian colleagues have expressed interest in launching joint educational programs with Belarusian universities in these areas, including issuing diplomas of the established bilateral format." An agreement was reached to hold Belarusian Education Days in Algeria, which will showcase the capabilities of Belarusian universities in both personnel training and joint research. A Forum of Rectors of Belarusian and Algerian Universities is planned to take place in Minsk to discuss in detail cooperation formats," the Minister emphasized.
Particular attention was paid to Algeria's status as one of Africa's leading educational and technological centers. It was here that the first artificial intelligence university was established on the African continent, focused on training specialists in the development and application of AI technologies.
Furthermore, the Algerian side has expressed significant interest in cooperation in areas such as chemistry and petrochemistry, given the country's abundant oil and gas reserves and its desire to develop its own processing and production technologies. Issues of training personnel for the agro-industrial complex (including agricultural machinery and technology) and industry, primarily the automotive industry, are also being actively discussed. These priorities align with the objectives defined at the level of the Heads of State.

Developing Cooperation in General Secondary Education
During the visit, special attention was paid to cooperation between the Ministry of Education of Belarus and the Ministry of National Education of Algeria. Belarusian Education Minister Andrei Ivanets and Algerian Minister of National Education Mohamed Saghir Saadawi reached agreements to expand bilateral cooperation in general secondary education.
In 2026, Belarus will invite a group of Algerian children to vacation at the Zubrenok National Children's Health Center, one of the country's key educational and health projects for recreation and recuperation.
An agreement was also reached to develop cooperation in the student Olympiad movement, which will become a new direction of academic ties between schoolchildren of the two countries.
The Algerian side was particularly interested in the system of scientific and methodological support for general secondary education in Belarus, including the experience of the Academy of Education, a leading institution for the development of methodological approaches and support for teaching staff.
