We celebrate this national holiday annually on the second Sunday of May in accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus.

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko signed a decree to amend the decree "On national holidays, festive days and commemorative days in the Republic of Belarus."

The name of the state holiday “Day of the State Emblem of the Republic of Belarus and the State Flag of the Republic of Belarus – second Sunday in May” has been changed to “Day of the State Flag, the State Emblem, and the State Anthem of the Republic of Belarus – second Sunday in May”.
This year, the day is May 14th. The holiday itself was established in 1995 in honor of the adoption of state symbols by the republican referendum.

Each modern state has its own symbols that express its political independence and sovereignty, its history of origin and development, its national identity.

In the system of attributes, the state symbolism is the embodiment of the national idea of the Belarusian state.

The coat of arms, flag and anthem of the state are the main symbols of independence, conveying the historical and cultural heritage of our people, emphasizing the national spirit and dignity of Belarusian citizens. They reflect certain aspects of the nation and state, giving an idea of the country's historical path and its national values.

The State Emblem and the State Flag of our country embody its social and political system - democratic, aimed at the development and prosperity of the country, providing decent living conditions for every citizen. The state symbols of Belarus also reflect the fundamental idea of the equality of all citizens of the Republic of Belarus, regardless of social, national or religious affiliation.

The State Emblem, the State Flag reflect the history of origin of state, its structure, national and other traditions, features of the economy and its nature. The national anthem in its music and lyrics expresses the ideological foundations of the state, its history and structure, its goals and principles.

In the education system today, an important role goes to the upbringing of the younger generation. To educate a citizen means to prepare him for participation in solving current and future tasks of our state, for performing the functions of a master and a worker, a defender of the Motherland and a family man dying to participate in conscious and vigorous activity.

The creation of conditions for the formation of the civic-patriotic qualities of an individual in the younger generation is today one of the main criteria for the effectiveness of the organization of ideological and educational work with students, carried out by educational institutions. The most important indicator of this criterion, along with others, is the students' knowledge of the symbols of the Republic of Belarus, understanding of its role and significance as a concentrated expression of the ideology of the state. The use of state symbols allows students' not only respect the symbols of state power, but also contributes to the patriotic education of the younger generation as a whole, its civil formation.
