For the third day now, the city on Bug with a rich history welcomes guests of the republican holiday “Brest – Youth Capital”. The baton was passed to Brest by Novopolotsk, the last city to hold the honorary title in 2023.
More than 400 young people from all over the country take part in festive events filled with the spirit of creativity, energy and patriotism. Boys and girls gathered here to share their ideas, talents and experiences, and to strengthen friendships between universities.
Today is the grand opening of the republican holiday “Brest – youth capital of the Republic of Belarus – 2024” with the participation of the leadership of the Ministry of Education.
As Minister of Education Andrei Ivanets noted in communication with media representatives, this year the transfer of the “key” to the city of Brest and its heroic Brest Fortress is very symbolic. After all, it was this peaceful city that was the first to face the horrors of the Great Patriotic War, which claimed the lives of millions of citizens.
2024 is the year of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the territories of Belarus from the Nazi invaders. There are those who want to forget and erase the pages of the glorious Belarusian history, but our peace-loving country will not allow this.
Addressing the young people who gathered at the Brest Regional Social and Cultural Center, the Minister said: “You are the brightest representatives of our youth from all regions. Today, young people receive the closest and most serious attention from the Head of State. Our country has created all the necessary conditions so that you can realize your potential. The future of your and our country is in your hands. Only through your work, your mind and desire can we truly achieve a strong, prosperous and independent Belarus.”
One of the areas of work with youth in Brest is patronage of cultural and historical sites, monuments, obelisks, memorial signs and military graves. Here, young patriots keep a Memory Watch, revive letters from the front, volunteer teams work to provide patronage assistance to veterans of the Great Patriotic War and citizens equated to them, and elderly people who suffered from the consequences of wars.
Brest will celebrate its 1005th anniversary and it is young in spirit, and its spirit charges and enriches again and again. The All-Belarusian Youth Construction Project is taking place here - the construction of the Republican Center for Patriotic Education of Youth in the Brest Fortress.
Andrei Ivanets noted that the youth of the city of Brest face a very difficult task. Novopolotsk has done everything possible over the year to become a youth capital. Thus, a number of major events took place, including the work of the Councils of Working Youth, Young Scientists, and Students. Significant international events took place as well.
“I am confident that Brest will achieve even higher goals. I congratulate the city on being awarded the important, honorable and responsible status of a youth capital. And I wish young people to believe in themselves, to prove with their work, intelligence and determination that you are the best youth in the world,” the Minister of Education said.
By the way, Brest, like the Brest region as a whole, is a city commensurate with the potential of a young man and his ambitions. Statistical data confirms this by the number of youth living and studying in the Brest region, consisting of more than 230 thousand young citizens.
Young people here have room to grow and develop; they are truly equal partners of society in changing lives for the better. Young people are involved in social and public activities through self-government bodies, youth-oriented public associations, and the volunteer movement.
Happy holiday to everyone who is young at heart and soul!
