Starting from July 27 until August 7, the Republic of Tatarstan has been hosting the 14th All-Russian Open Field Olympiad for Young Geologists.

More than 40 teams (311 participants and 80 team leaders) from Russia and other CIS countries, including Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, gathered on the territory of the Solnechny children's health camp in Almetyevsk. The teams consist of students from grades 8 to 11.

For the fourth time Belarus took part in the research competition. The result is very good, as always. Belarusian schoolchildren have won silver and bronze medals.

During this field Olympiad, our young geologists as part of two teams showed excellent results. For example, in the Hydrology competition, the first place was conquered by Bogdan Konstantinov and Anna Voitekhovich.

Among the priority tasks of the thematic event are the training of personnel and early career guidance for young people, the education of patriotism, love for the native land, respect for nature and its mineral wealth.

The subject covers the sections of natural science that make up the complex of Earth sciences. Participants apply knowledge of paleontology, petrography, mineralogy, crystallography, geophysics, geochemistry, eco-geology and other geological sciences.

The guys practice in the geological section, show their skills in radiometry and magnetometry, schlich testing, go on a geological route, set up tents, skillfully make a campfire and promptly come to the aid to the “victims”. Also to the attention of the participants - an exhibition of achievements of young geologists and geological songs.

The results of the XIV All-Russian Open Field Olympiad for Young Geologists are about to be summed up today. The panel of judges will assess the level of professional skills of students in competitions and challenges as well as determine the best experts in the team and individual competitions.

It is worth saying that the All-Russian Open Field Olympiad takes place once every two years. These Olympiads traditionally bring together representatives of youth geological associations - parties, scouts and interest clubs - from many regions of Russia, as well as neighboring countries.

As part of the event, along with a series of specialized competitions, sports and entertainment events take place, including meetings with famous people, tours and master classes.
