Today the closing ceremony of the Meeting of Young Ecologists of Belarus and Russia ‘Ecology without Borders’ will take place on the territory of the ‘National Children's Health Camp ‘Zubrenok’.
From 16 to 23 July 70 students (35 children representing the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation each) from among the winners of ecological and biological contests, Olympiads, republican and federal meetings showed their knowledge in the competition of young ecologists, consisting of theoretical and practical rounds, took part in the work of field laboratories in 5 scientific thematic areas: hydrobiology, botany, soil science, entomology and ornithology, defended their research works.
And the conference ‘Study. Explore. Experiment’, the children presented their results on thematic scientific directions, shared the results of the research work carried out in the territory of the National Park ‘Narochansky’, made conclusions about the peculiarities of soils, flora and fauna of this part of the Belarusian Lakeland, answered the questions of experts in detail.
At the end of the conference all young people were presented with certificates of participation and souvenirs. Each participant of the Conference discovered something new and interesting. Thus, the children from the direction ‘Botany’ found plants listed in the Red Book of the Republic of Belarus, and the students studying ‘Entomology’ discovered a new species of insects for this area.
The participants of the Rally were also involved in the civil-patriotic action ‘We Remember and Are Proud!’, visited the excursion to the Belarusian State Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War.
The extensive cultural and educational programme for young ecologists included a sightseeing tour of Minsk, thematic excursions to the Narochansky National Park, and creative evenings.
During the week experienced scientists-practitioners from scientific organisations of Belarus and Russia worked together with the children, who shared their professional advice and helped them to conduct scientific experiments.
It should be noted that the Meeting of young ecologists of Belarus and Russia is a traditional event of the Union State, which is held once every two years. In 2022, the event was held in Russia on the territory of the Prioksko-Terrasny State Reserve.
The focus is on attracting children and youth to practical activities on environmental conservation, shaping an environmentally responsible outlook in the younger generation, strengthening friendly ties between students of the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation.
It is not by chance that the event is called ‘Ecology without Borders’. The event unites into one big friendly ecological family. And this is a new look at well-studied territories. Children find rare insects, unique plants, make small scientific discoveries, jointly assess the ecological situation, identify problems and look for ways to overcome them.
