Belarusian schoolchildren have won 5 medals during the International Scientific Physics Olympiad and it is a good reason to be proud of our young victorious geniuses! More than 100 high school students from 19 countries took part from July 3 to 10 in Khanty-Mansiysk (Russia). These are 17 national teams from different parts of the world who came from friendly countries of the CIS, Asia and Latin America.

The Olympiad took place in a mixed format. Most of the national teams participated in person, while four online. The tasks were based not only on theory but on practice as well. There were a lot of difficult tasks. Schoolchildren had to solve three problems based on real scientific articles, including the use of computer modeling and analysis. In the experimental round, participants were asked to perform real physical experiments using laboratory-like equipment.

According to the results of a prestigious intellectual competition all five participants from Belarus won medals. In the overall team competition, our gifted guys took first place. Young physicists from Belarus have one gold and four silver medals. Second place went to Kazakhstan and third to Armenia.

Thus, Alina Polonskaya, a graduate of the Mogilev State Regional Lyceum No. 1 is on her way home with a gold medal. Silver went to graduates of the BSU Lyceum Andrei Ersh, Ilya Ivanov, Artyom Levko, as well as a graduate of Minsk Gymnasium No. 41 Mikhail Khursin.

The team mentors were Leonid Markovich, a physics teacher at the BSU Lyceum, and Matvey Valdovsky, a student of the BSU Faculty of Physics.

Belarusian schoolchildren have been demonstrating impeccable results at the International Scientific Physics Olympiad for several years now. Traditionally, during such competitions, children not only test their knowledge of fundamental science, but also learn the history and culture of the host region. This time they were given a tour of Ugra. They visited universities and museums in the city. The trip on the ship to the confluence of the Siberian rivers Ob and Irtysh left an unforgettable impression.

We thank the mentors for accompanying the national team of our country and highly professional work at the International Scientific Physics Olympiad! Congratulations to the entire team on a well-deserved victory!
