Both 11th graders and their parents feel pressure now. Soon they will have to pass through centralized exam, which is mandatory for all 11th graders.
Specialists of the Ministry of Education answer the most pressing questions, among them - "What caused the need to change approaches to the final certification of 11-graders?" “In what subjects will a centralized exam be held in 2023?”; “Are there any other final exams, except for the centralized one?”; "Who can be exempted from the centralized examination?"; “What mark will be put in the certificate of general secondary education?”; “What kind of characteristics will graduates have to provide for admission?”.
Irina Karzhova, Deputy Head of the Main Department of General Secondary, Preschool and Special Education - Head of the Department of General Secondary Education of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus, notes that the topic of CE is no longer a novel question and the Ministry of Education is actively preparing for it and has reached the finish line.
As for the advantages of the new final campaign, according to Irina Karzhova: “They are obvious. Previously, graduates had to take four final exams at school and then, after a short period of time, at least three CTs. Today, these are two CEs and one CT for admission to a higher educational institution.”
The second advantage is in the unification of the forms of conducting final examinations and examinations of the entrance campaign. Previously, it was a presentation in the Russian or Belarusian language, a test in mathematics, an oral exam in foreign languages. Upon admission, this is a test. As a result, there are different forms of exams, different preparation is a serious burden on the young body.
“Today, this is one exam, the results of which are counted both for the final certification at school and for admission to a higher education institution. Also, new approaches increase the teacher's responsibility for the results of their work and, as a result, improve the quality of graduates' knowledge. We state that the education system as a whole is ready for the final certification of eleventh-graders in a new format,” assures Irina Karzhova.
Everything has already been prepared, including the necessary legal and regulatory framework, the rules for attesting students, instructions for organizing the CE, approved places for the exam – 144 in all. Of these, 30 are based on higher education institutions, 60 on the basis of vocational education institutions and 54 places - on the basis of institutions of general secondary education (schools, gymnasiums, lyceums).
Organizational commissions that will be directly involved in the conduct of the CE have also been determined. In educational institutions, commissions have been created that are engaged in the registration of students in the eleventh grade to participate in the CE. The dates of the event have also been determined: May 14 and 21 are the main dates. In addition to the indicated dates, reserve days are set. So, the first reserve day is May 23 for the Russian or Belarusian language, May 25 for a subject of choice. For those students who, for a good reason, could not pass the CE on the main dates and reserve days, other deadlines are provided - in July, if they coincide with the reserve days of the CT, and also in August - 21 and 23.
The general principles of conducting DE and DH are the same, but there are some peculiarities. One of these features is that students will be centrally delivered to the exam site. Delivery of students is provided by the educational institution, accompanied by a teacher. In the same way, students will be transported from the examination point to the educational institution.
An important feature: students do not need to go to points to register for a centralized exam. It is enough to write an application addressed to the head of the educational institution, in which it is necessary to indicate the subject for passing the CE and the language in which the text should be provided for the exam in the subject to choose from Russian or Belarusian). Certificates will be obtained directly from the educational institution.
Who does not need to take the CE? Some students have this opportunity. Those who study at home for medical reasons, the list of which is established by the Ministry of Health, are completely exempt from the centralized exam. True, such children will receive a certificate of general secondary education, but this year they will not be able to take part in the CT and continue their studies in higher education institutions. But there is an excellent opportunity to continue education in the institutions of the SSO and VET.
The second category of students who are granted the right to be exempted from the CE are the winners of the third and final stage of the Republican Olympiad in academic subjects. At the same time, the winners of the third stage of the Republican Olympiad can be exempted from one CE in the subject in which they became winners. The winners of the final stage of the Republican Olympiad are given the right to be exempted from two CE. At the same time, it is necessary to write a corresponding application to the head of the educational institution 5 days before the end of registration for the centralized exam.
By the way, now there is an active phase of registration at the CE, which is organized from April 1 to April 21. This means that by April 15, the winners of the Olympiad, as well as students who studied at home, need to decide whether they will take the CE or are exempted from passing, and they will receive a mark in the certificate of general secondary education in the manner prescribed by the attestation rules.
As for students who pass the CE in the prescribed manner, they will receive a certificate on a 100-point system. The results will be translated into a 10-point scale and, taking into account the mark obtained at the CE, the final mark in the certificate of general secondary education will be set. This final mark is calculated as the arithmetic mean of the annual mark and mark for the CE. The students will receive certificates along with certificates at the graduation party, which is scheduled for June 10 this year.
