January 16 is the day when the resolution of the Ministry of Education “On approval of educational programs for elective classes”, published on the National Legal Portal, comes into force.

The document reads about updating three curricula for elective classes: “Home Cooking” for grades V–IX of educational institutions implementing educational programs of general secondary education with Belarusian and Russian languages of instruction and education, “Fashion School” for grades VIII (IX) and “ Military translation" in the academic subject "Foreign Language" (English) for grades X-XI (Suvorov military and cadet schools, specialized lyceums, educational institutions that conduct elective classes of a military-patriotic direction, as well as other educational institutions).

The curriculum of elective classes “Home Cooking” will contribute to the formation of a culture of nutrition and food preparation. Classes are designed for 175 hours (35 hours in each class, 1 hour per week). The components of the educational material are divided into the following topics: “Snacks”; “First courses” (for grades VII, VIII – “Lunch on a fish day” and “Hearty lunch”); "Second courses"; "Dessert"; "Beverages".

Among the main tasks are to teach students how to manage a home and to promote the development of creative abilities.

Most of the study time (at least 85%) is devoted to practical activities. As a result of mastering the content of the curriculum, students will have to have an idea of the range of dishes and the technology of their preparation, as well as safety measures and the rules of table service.

In turn, the curriculum of elective classes “Fashion School”, designed for 35 hours, 1 hour per week, will contribute to the development of the creative and intellectual potential of students, deepening knowledge of the basics of design, clothing manufacturing, artistic processing of products, and professional self-determination.

To master the content of this program, various forms and methods of teaching and education are used, including conversations, games, debates, trainings, and excursions. As a result of the classes, children will gain an understanding of the history of clothing, the development of ready-made clothing production and the emergence of high fashion as well as trends in the development of modern fashion.

Lectures on self-care rules will be in the program as well. Students will talk about the professions of a model, cosmetologist, makeup artist and will have the chance to meet representatives of the hairdressing profession.

The final stage of this training program will be the reporting event “Fashion, Health, Success”.

As for the curriculum of elective classes “Military Translation” in the academic subject “Foreign Language” (English), designed for 69 academic hours (in grade X - 35 hours, in grade XI - 34 hours), the key point here is the development of foreign language communicative competence for the successful implementation of translation activities within the framework of the subject-thematic content of speech communication.

The main tasks include the formation of professional skills and abilities of a military translator, readiness for self-education and independent work with dictionaries, reference books and other sources of information.

To achieve the set goals and objectives, elements of the lecture course and practical exercises are used in the teaching process. During independent work, students will consolidate the knowledge acquired in practical classes and activate the skills of oral and written speech.

As a result of mastering the curriculum, students will be required to know military terminology; classification of military topographic maps, be able to use the acquired knowledge in various situations of foreign language communication, extract information from text on military topics, master basic translation techniques and modern technologies in the process of translation. Students will master skills in working with sources of information (text, graphic, cartographic) of military and military-technical content.
