
February 28, the National center for artistic creativity of children and youth hosted a meeting of the board of the Ministry of Education. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the results of the Ministry’s work throughout 2023.
The board also determined key tasks for 2024.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration Igor Lutsky, Deputy Prime Minister Igor Petrishenko, Minister of Education Andrei Ivanets, Chairman of the Standing Commission of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly on Education, Science, Culture and Social Development Irina Starovoitova.
Mr. Ivanets in his turn explained what an education is: “Education is a complex, multilevel system that deals with every filed of human activity. Our system is developing dynamically and we improve it counting key components such as: aiming towards student’s persona, education continuity, its inseparability from upbringing and its availability and quality”.
Currently we aim to fulfill the major requirements – education must meet the national demands and develop itself counting the economic necessities as well as realization of young people’s potential.
2023 was quite diverse for Belarus. Thusly, participants of the ‘Belarus intellectual” exhibition of scientific and technic achievements exhibited the pride of the nation. These include space applications, medicines, unique medical products.
Nevertheless, university science is not yet fully a driving force for transformation of higher education.
When the floor was passed to the deputy prime-minister Igor Petrishenko, he outlined the necessity to enhance the ongoing work on personnel training, because this is of special importance in the Year of Quality. Drafting and work with regulatory and legal acts needs drastic improvement. “This year the Ministry of Education will have to do a good job to improve legal regulation. One of the key aspects is correction of the “Education Code” and the “Law on the Rights of the Child”. Mr. Petrishenko tasked Andrei Ivanets to take the work on these legal projects under his control.
Further, the participants of the board meeting considered current issues of improving and further developing the national education system, learned about the improvement of the system of vocational and secondary specialized education in Minsk, learned about approaches to improving the content of educational programs of higher education, heard a sociological assessment of the level of satisfaction with the quality of education in Belarus.
Based on the results of the board, the best pedagogical initiatives of the education system for 2023 received awards. They were awarded to 10 teams, each in its own category. In addition, the department’s “Excellence in Education” badge was awarded to 9 representatives of the field.
