During a visit to the Korelichi district of the Grodno oblast on February 22, Minister of Education Andrei Ivanets held a reception of citizens at the Mir Village Executive Committee, discussed with the leadership of the district and village executive committees and the main education department of the Grodno regional executive committee current issues of the election campaign and the importance of participation of young people in the 2024 single elections.
The meeting of the head of the department with the pedagogical community of the region and representatives of the Youth Parliament under the Korelichi District Council of Deputies was constructive.
Thus, the Minister indicated that the closest attention is currently being paid to the national education system and it is completely justified. Education affects each of us, regardless of our chosen profession.
“Currently 2 million Belarusians are receiving education, from kindergarten to universities. The main task of each educational institution is to educate good people, worthy citizens of their country, of whom their parents and teachers will be proud,” emphasized Andrei Ivanets.
The Minister focused specifically on key positions. He noted that today it is necessary to quickly develop the methods and methodology of preschool education. In the age of information technology, you should not live a regular and calm life. Parents of preschoolers are interested in high-quality and modern education and upbringing of their children, including sports, creative, environmental, technical and scientific profiles. A simple routine in a child care facility is not enough. An active cognitive process comes to the forefront of parental interest.
In this regard, the priority is quality training of teaching staff, increasing the level of professional education and skills.
In terms of general secondary education, it is noted that today all schools are quite well funded, the material and technical base has been strengthened, repair work has been carried out, and excellent conditions for learning have been developed. But in the educational process, upbringing plays an important role - the foundation, which includes respect for adults, decent behavior in society, team, and one’s family.
In this regard, a lot of systematic work is being done on museum pedagogy, the creation of museums and museum exhibitions in schools. “There should be no formalism in this work. Students must be able to interest them so that they want to study the history of their native land, the life of fellow countrymen who glorify their small homeland,” the Minister noted.
Special attention is paid to labor education and careful attitude to natural resources.
The head of the department also indicated that it is necessary to target children for a professional choice as early as possible.
After communicating with teachers, Andrei Ivanets, as part of the information and educational project “School of an Active Citizen,” met with students of the A.I. Stashevskaya school.
High school students willingly talked about their hobbies and school life. Thus, in their educational institution, individual academic subjects are studied at an advanced level: those in grade X - Belarusian and Russian languages, biology, and in grade XI - Russian language, mathematics, physics. Career guidance events are held, and parents, within the framework of the “Parents University” project, meet with students and subject teachers, psychologists. In close communication, the children learn about the importance of choosing a profession for successful self-realization in the future.
The program offered by domestic universities – “Student for a Day” – is also of interest. This is a unique chance to feel like a real student, attend lectures and practical classes, visit the scientific library, see the student clubs and volunteer organizations.
By the way, such interaction between family, school and university produces positive results. At the end of 2023, 86% of graduates entered institutions of higher learning, of which 90% - to the budget form of education, 30% - to targeted areas.
No doubt that choosing a life path was a hot topic during the meeting.
According to the Minister, the key pint is not to stop midway and choose the path: education throughout life. Continuing education allows one to remain in demand on the labor market and expand one’s horizons throughout life.
At the end of the meeting, the Minister of Education presented books on patriotic themes to the school library. In turn, the students also presented the distinguished guest with books about the history of the ancient village of Mir.
