Lawyer's Day is celebrated on the first Sunday of December. According to established tradition, on the eve of this holiday, the Belarusian Republican Union of Lawyers organizes conferences on the most pressing legal issues.

These days, at the President Hotel in Minsk, the Forum of the Union of Lawyers of the Republic of Belarus takes place on the topic: “Law in the modern world.”

Senior officials, representatives of government bodies and organizations, as well as foreign guests take part in the Forum as speakers and moderators.

The innovation of the forum is open discussions on preserving historical truth and combating falsification of history. Particular attention is paid to social policy, education, digitalization in the state. In parallel with the sections in which experts discuss the practical aspects of legal practice in various areas, there are also various lectures, master classes, book presentations, seminars and trainings on mediation (“Nonviolent Communication”, “Restorative Mediation”, “Manipulations in Communication”)

Today a plenary meeting took place with the participation of the leadership of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly, the Presidential Administration, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Justice, the Constitutional Court, the Supreme Court, the Prosecutor General's Office, and the Investigative Committee.

Voicing issues of youth policy and legal education, Minister of Education Andrei Ivanets indicated that the issues of educating the younger generation and their socialization are of particular importance. From childhood, the state instills in its citizens the values that unite the nation and people, and thereby instills in them loyalty to civic duty.

It is noted that in Belarus, educational institutions have built a system for the formation of a citizen’s personality, which is implemented within the framework of the educational process and is its priority. The content of patriotic education in educational institutions is based on three basic components: knowledge of the history of one’s country, respect for its achievements and readiness to defend the Motherland.

According to the head of the department, it is knowledge of the history of one’s country and a respectful attitude towards it that serves as the basis for shaping the worldview of young people.

In this regard, it was reported that in 2022, the Republican Council on Historical Policy under the Administration of the President of the Republic of Belarus approved the Concept of School History Education. During its development, the principles of state historical policy, the modern concept of Belarusian statehood were taken into account, the emphasis was placed on the formation of a system of basic values, historical memory, and the development of historical thinking among students.

The practice of holding unity lessons dedicated to significant dates and events has also proven effective in the country’s educational institutions. By the way, the Ministry of Education plans to conduct unified lessons in February 2024 on the topic of elections, the rights and responsibilities of future voters.

The implementation of the SAC project continues actively. The key idea of the project in the current academic year is “My Motherland Belarus in Persons” with the invitation of heads of government authorities and organizations, parliamentarians, representatives of public associations, the scientific and expert community.

The Minister of Education focused specifically on the main components of citizenship - the military-patriotic education of youth, the functioning of military-patriotic classes and cadet schools, student search associations, and military-patriotic clubs.

In the education of children and youth, the potential of museums of educational institutions is also widely used, of which today there are 1,420. There are 2,676 museum exhibitions dedicated to the history of the Great Patriotic War.

Educational institutions ensure maximum involvement of students in visiting museums and iconic historical and cultural sites. Only within the framework of the pilot project of the last school year, 7,673 one-day excursions were organized, which were attended by more than 141 thousand students in grades X-XI.

“Patriotism is the willingness to put the interests of the state above personal ones. The formation of a citizen’s personality includes instilling responsibility for one’s actions and the Motherland, and fulfilling duties to the state and society. I am sure that this is a common task of the republican government bodies, local executive authorities, public associations, which will be successfully implemented!” stated the Minister of Education Andrei Ivanets.
