Today, the Republican Institute of Higher Education hosted a joint meeting of the Commission on scientific and methodological support of historical policy and the Coordinating Council under the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus for the development of historical science and education.
The issues of implementing historical policy, preserving historical memory and bringing the truth about the historical past of Belarus remain relevant.
In 2022, the Concept of School History Education was adopted, in accordance with it the content of a new course for senior classes of general secondary education institutions - “The History of Belarus in the Context of World History” is being developed. Also approved and implemented from September 1, 2022, the concept of the cycle model of social and humanitarian disciplines for institutions of higher education. In this regard, the effectiveness of the new model of the cycle of social and humanitarian disciplines and the quality of teaching of social and humanitarian disciplines are being monitored. Based on its results, (if necessary) adjustment of the SRS Concept, content of training programs will be carried out.
In 2023, these issues are given great attention in the Address of the Head of State to the Belarusian people and the National Assembly.
In January 2023, a visiting seminar was held on the topic "The Republic of Belarus: from the origins to the present (the historical path of state building)". The materials of the seminar and the Resolution adopted at it reflect the most important postulates of the historical policy of the Republic of Belarus and should become a guide in the development of scientific and methodological support for the teaching of social and humanitarian disciplines at all levels of the education system.
The content of the new course "History of Belarus in the context of world history" should ensure that students and young people develop a clear understanding of the concept of national statehood; an objective reflection of the events of Belarusian history, the preservation of historical memory as the most important factor in counteracting the falsification of the history of our country, any manifestations of neo-Nazism, nationalism and forcing confrontation in society.
When developing a new textbook, all comments and suggestions on the content of history textbooks that were made as part of the dialogue platforms with history teachers and reviewers of textbooks held in 2022 will be taken into account.
Today we also discussed the issue of improving the quality of teaching social and humanitarian disciplines, in particular, improving the qualifications of the teaching staff, holding "open" classes and others. In the 1st semester of the 2022-2023 academic year, the teaching of the “History of the Belarusian statehood” was carried out in 48 HEIs within 578 specialties. The curriculum for the academic discipline "History of the Belarusian statehood" is intended for implementation at the first stage of higher education within the cycle of social and humanitarian disciplines for first-year students of all specialties of higher education. The emphasis is on conceptual knowledge of the history of the development of state institutions, the inalienable attributes of the Belarusian statehood, the formation of practice-oriented skills.
The events of the Year of Peace and Creation open up additional educational opportunities for teachers, contribute to the formation of a careful attitude to history and culture, and increase responsibility for the future of the country.
Today, the formation of citizenship and patriotism among the younger generation is carried out in the organic unity of the process of education and upbringing. Work on civic-patriotic education covers all levels of education.
The Ministry of Education is doing a lot of work to implement the action plan for the Year of Peace and Creation. New projects were also discussed at the meeting today. Thus, within the framework of the plan, the 1st republican forum of school museums and a competition of school guides dedicated to the Year of Peace and Creation will take place.
