
A 3-day Philosophy Festival starts November 22, 2023 at BSU. The event gathered more than 120 students, teachers and scientists from Belarusian universities. Among them are representatives of the Belarusian State University, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, the Belarusian State Economic University, the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the Minsk State Linguistic University.
The event program includes practical exercises, intellectual competitions, forums and discussion platforms. Let us note that all planned events are traditionally held in November under the auspices of World Philosophy Day and are timed to coincide with the Year of Peace and Creation.
The event will start with a calligraphy master class “Philosophy as the art of thought and writing,” participants will learn about the art of calligraphy and master the use of a fountain pen.
One of the largest events of the festival is the Republican scientific and theoretical seminar “Innovative strategies in modern social philosophy” in a full-time and remote format.
At the plenary session “Belarus for Peace and Creation: Global Trends and National Development Priorities,” experts will present reports on the topics of philosophical and ideological justification for peace and security, ethnic stereotypes in painting, etc.
The discussion of key issues will continue in three sections, where participants will talk about the challenges and risks of the modern civilizational process, man and culture in the focus of philosophical reflection, science and education in the era of transdisciplinary transition.
Based on the results of the forum, a collection of scientific materials will be prepared and will be published in the BSU E-Library.
There will also be a meeting of the student discussion club “Facultas artium”. The topic of the discussion is devoted to the question “What is philosophy?” Specialists will consider the existential aspect of philosophy, the personal path to philosophy, the logical and axiological essence of philosophy.
Students and young scientists will be able to demonstrate their knowledge in the field of philosophy at the quiz competition “Visiting Philosophy. Language games". The competition is organized in the “Brainstorm” format.
The final event of the festival will be a meeting of the philosophical film club “Wittgenstein’s Rhinoceros”, during which an excerpt from the film “The Name of the Rose” based on the work of the same name by Umberto Eco will be shown. Participants will discuss how well the director managed to film the postmodern novel and what difficulties he might have encountered.
It should be noted that the Philosophy Festival has been held annually since 2016. The organizer of the event is the Faculty of Social Sciences of BSU.
