BSUIR, June 19. The ceremony of awarding the laureates of the XXX Republican competition of scientific works of students took place. Based on the results of the intellectual competition, the honorary title was awarded to 55 young scientists who worked individually, and to 10 who worked in collaboration.
The event was attended by the leadership of the Ministry of Education, the Higher Attestation Commission, the National Academy of Sciences, and the State Committee on Science and Technology.
In his welcoming speech, Andrei Ivanets indicated that today is a very exciting but joyful moment when the laureates of the Republican competition can summarize the preliminary results of the first steps that they are now taking in research activities.
“In Belarus, the most important asset is the intellectual potential of young people, who today are already taking their first steps into science. Universities are now based on those scientific schools that have been developing since the times of the Soviet Union. During this time, we managed not only to preserve them, but also to develop a number of new scientific areas. Currently, about 35 industry laboratories with ministries and departments, 3 technology transfer centers, and 7 science and technology parks operate on the basis of our country’s universities. More than 5 thousand scientists work in our universities. All this suggests that the scientific potential that we have today is realized through the highest quality of training of specialists at our universities,” emphasized Andrei Ivanets.
The Minister further added: “Today we honor the winners of the XXX Republican Student Scientific Work Competition. In fact, this date coincides with the 30th anniversary of the institution of the presidency in our country. The head of state pays special attention to supporting science and youth. Attracting young people to science is a priority for the development and support of scientific schools, not only institutions of higher education, but also all spheres of the economy. I would like to note the very high activity of students today in carrying out research work. In fact, 40% of our students are involved in work that is carried out in departments, in laboratories of our universities and research institutes of both industrial and academic science.”
For young people who take part in research activities, the annual Republican competition of scientific works is a significant event. The competition is an opportunity to introduce yourself, demonstrate creativity and learn from the experiences of others.
This time the competition was organized as part of the celebration of the 105th anniversary of the government authorities of the education system of Belarus. For the anniversary competition, a new scientific section “Constitutional law and process”. Electoral law and process” was inaugurated on the basis of BSU. The second competition is being held in a new format, which involves the nomination and consideration of works in two stages. More than 3.5 thousand works were submitted to the first stage, of which 2961 passed to the second stage. Most of the authors were students and cadets (1452 people), university graduates (1432 people) and undergraduates (342 people).
In total, the participants’ work was evaluated by 37 competition commissions with a total of 379 people in 24 universities across the country. A significant part of them are teachers and researchers and they were engaged in reviewing scientific papers.
According to the results of the competition, 55 people received diplomas from the Ministry of Education and cash prizes of 8 basic units for individual work, and another 10 who worked on scientific projects in collaboration received diplomas from the relevant department and cash prizes of 4 basic units.
The quality of students' works depends on the professionalism of their supervisors. This year, 2,116 employees helped their students with projects for the competition. Of these, 203 have a PhD, 1305 are candidates of science, 608 have no academic degrees. The older generation and young scientists are always ready to help and support the endeavors of talented students.
It is noteworthy that the results of more than 90% of the competition works have already been published and introduced into the educational process and in production. In total, the competition participants published 9,128 articles and 5,197 abstracts of reports, introduced 4,854 developments into production and the educational process, and received 73 documents on intellectual property protection.
