Today, a republican subbotnik takes place throughout the country to improve and bring into proper condition objects and territories of settlements, historical and cultural values, memorial complexes, places of military glory of the Great Patriotic War. This is especially important now, in the Year of Peace and Creation, when the value of peace, the unity of the nation, citizenship and patriotism, and creative work acquire special meaning.

Such initiatives are a great opportunity for team building and for effective time spending on Saturday.

Traditionally, representatives of the Ministry of Education, the Republican Youth Center, and students also take part in the large-scale event.

So today, from the very morning, employees of the structural divisions of the Ministry of Education, headed by Minister Andrei Ivanets, representatives of the Republican Youth Center, have actively begun to improve the territory at two sites.

A friendly team enthusiastically began to carry out the scope of work at the youth hostel complex of the Minsk Student Village. The dormitory rooms of the Medical University were cleaned, and the surrounding area was freed from household waste, old foliage, branches and stones.

A wide range of works was also carried out at the State Educational Institution "Rudensk Special Boarding School". On the territory of the boarding school, the labor troops of the department were engaged in whitewashing fruit trees, painting sidewalk curbs, landscaping flower beds, and planting potatoes. While laying flowers at a mass grave where more than 300 Soviet soldiers, partisans and civilians are buried, Deputy Minister of Education Sergei Rudy emphasized an important point: “2023 has been declared the Year of Peace and Creation. As the Head of State said, peace on earth is unthinkable without historical memory. Therefore, today we remember and pay tribute to those who gave their lives for us to live in a free, independent and peaceful country. Creation is the way towards the future.

Also on this day, a meeting of the Minister of Education with teachers and educators of the educational institution was held at the Rudensk special boarding school. Topical issues of the educational process, civic-patriotic education, organization of pupils' leisure were discussed.

The money earned on the day of the subbotnik, including activities at the workplace, will go to the Gomel Regional Executive Committee for the reconstruction of the memorial complex to the prisoners of the Ozarich death camp (Kalinkovichi district of the Gomel region) and the Brest Regional Executive Committee for the creation of a republican center for patriotic education of youth on the basis of the Kobrin fortification of the Brest Fortress.

By the way, about 2.4 million Belarusians took part in the republican subbotnik last April. The funds earned from this action then went to the reconstruction of the Khatyn memorial complex - in total, the Belarusians transferred about BYN12 million.

Over the past five years, almost 47.5 million rubles have been collected at republican subbotniks. The proceeds were directed to the construction and reconstruction of hospitals and clinics; purchase of special ambulance (emergency) medical vehicles with a complete set of medical equipment; the construction of family-type houses for orphans and new medical and health institutions for children affected by the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant; creation and development of the infrastructure of agro-towns in order to improve the quality of life in the countryside, as well as for the reconstruction of memorial complexes, places of military glory, burial places of soldiers and partisans of the Great Patriotic War.
