Student of the Year, a republican competition that will definitely be bright and unforgettable, as always. It starts today at Minsk State Linguistic University.
The project was inspired by Belarusian Republican Youth Union with support from the Ministry of Education.
In order to make it through to the republican final and win, students must do well in the regional (Minsk city) qualification stage and then pass through preliminary one. University students are about to join the contest as we expect 41 institution to send their bright minds.
The main event is about to begin in the first half of December and we will have our winner.
This unique project gathers and unites students from all regions of the country, those who did well in studies, science, sports and arts. The competition seeks development of leadership qualities, support of creative potential of students and creation of opportunities for its realization in every aspect of student’s life.
According to Vladislav Dubitskiy, the project manager and an official representative of Belarusian Republican Youth Union’s central committee, student of the year became a brand of the union. Everyone loves this contest and students are waiting for it. For the past three years, 684 students took on the competition and their teams have brought together more than 5 thousand students not counting audience.
“Traditionally, many students wait for it because they can feel their dedication to common business and they can be proud of their Alma-mater”- says Mr. Dubitskiy.
Reference: The first ever event took place in 2011. The major requirements are success in studies (GPA – 8 at least), participation in public life, interuniversity, city, republican and international competitions. When student becomes sophomore, he can apply.
The top 8 will battle it out in five competitions – “Introduction”, “elocution contest”, “project defense”, “sport MIX” and “creative contest”.
“Student of the year ONLINE” is a separate event there and in order to win, a video must be made on the topic “I am student” and contestants must download it to official Youtube channel. The one with the most “likes” wins.
In the end, those who finished 1st, 2nd and 3rd become laureates of the Special Presidential fund on support of talented and gifted youth.
