Regional universities will hold the final in-person stage of the university Olympiads at the end of February. This was reported by the head of the main department of professional education of the Ministry of Education, Sergei Pishchev.
"Registration for the university Olympiads is currently in progress. The corresponding pages containing application forms have been added on the websites of the universities. After filling it out applicants are considered registered for the intellectual competition. Registration is carried out, as last year, online. Then the admissions committees begin working directly with graduates who plan to take advantage of the opportunity to enter a university without entrance examinations for a number of in-demand specialties this academic year. All relevant information is posted on the websites of higher education institutions that hold university Olympiads. This year there are the same number of them as last year - 21 regional universities," said Sergei Pishchev.
There is no single registration deadline; each university independently organizes the registration procedure, as well as the preliminary stage of the Olympiad. "The final in person stage is decisive. This year it will be held on February 22 and 23 in regional universities. Participants will need to visit the university in accordance with the schedule and go through the final stage. Traditionally, about a week will be spent checking the work. We believe that in early March, the universities will announce the results of the final stage of the Olympiads, and the winners will get I, II, III degree diplomas and be recommended for admission without entrance examinations to the selected specialties. This year, the number of places allocated for admission of students based on the results of university Olympiads has not changed - this is up to 15% of the admission control figures for the selected specialty. It should be remembered that not only graduates from the regions can participate in the Olympiads, this opportunity is available to everyone, regardless of the place of study," the representative of the Ministry of Education informed.

According to the results of last year, 375 winners entered 21 regional universities without exams. "This is a considerable number of children. This year, taking into account the information and career guidance work carried out, there will be no fewer participants. This trajectory of admission to regional universities justifies itself. We do not see the need to extend this practice to capital institutions yet. I would like to note that our regional universities are on the same level as the capital ones in terms of the list of open specialties, and are not inferior in terms of the quality of the organization of the educational process. It is important that regional universities are centers for training specialists for their base enterprises, so such additional opportunities are aimed at strengthening our regions with highly qualified and motivated young specialists in the future. In general, there are no big innovations in this educational trajectory, which is also a plus as we have really found the middle ground that justifies itself. No additional adjustments are required for either universities or applicants. Everyone understands the rules of the game and is starting to prepare. For example, today's tenth-graders are planning their participation in these Olympiads and began to prepare now," emphasized Sergey Pishchev.
