April 15, Belarus celebrates Family Day. The holiday was approved by the Presidential Decree of March 26, 1998. The holiday’s aim is to draw attention to the family institution and its role in the sustainable development of the society.

Belarusians are the diligent keepers of family traditions and we pass them from generation to generation. Family contributes to the development of the state, increase of family wealth and it strengthens the state.

Family is a calm and comfortable home where anyone is ready to support and understand you, help solve problems and sincerely share joy and woe. People’s personality is formed within a family. In it, a child finds his potential, determines his place in life, learns about kindness, justice and creation.

Our country preserves social duties on support of families with children. Thusly, an increase in the amount of care benefits has been ensured, additional types of material support have been introduced, and a wide range of services is provided to those who need it.

The education system has been and remains one of the most important social institutions that ensures the educational process and interaction between children, parents and society. Educational institutions in our country carry out systematic work aimed at strengthening family values and traditions.

While working on interaction between a family and a school, the Ministry of Education considers every issue! It takes into account the number of kids in a family, the specifics of the incomplete families, lack of communication with a child because of the business of parents. Teachers differentially work with a family and introduce kids and parents to school or class activities.

Involving parents in organizing leisure time during the holidays and on the sixth day of school enriches the family’s time. Activities in educational institutions are aimed at developing students’ work skills, professional self-determination, and a healthy lifestyle. Parent meetings help moms and dads accumulate positive experiences in raising children.

Today and tomorrow in all institutions of general secondary education there will be a single lesson dedicated to Family Day. Teachers will talk about its role and significance in the life of every person, about traditional values, nurturing a sense of love and respect for family and friends. For invited parents and grandparents of schoolchildren, an exhibition of drawings and photos “My Family”, “My Family is My Country”, “Happy Moments” will be presented.

Teachers will invite students to reflect on the actions through which care for loved ones is expressed, and also to share with each other the traditions of their family. In an open dialogue, the children, together with the invited guests, will draw a parallel between the family and the state.

Life in kindergartens, schools, gymnasiums, colleges and universities will be diversified with thematic essay and drawing competitions, parent clubs, and interactive quizzes. Of course, educational master classes are planned as well.

“The family is the primary institution of socialization of a child, the basis of a person’s future well-being, confidence in the future,” emphasizes Elena Voitekhovich, chief specialist of the department of social, educational and ideological work of the Main Directorate of Educational Work and Youth Policy of the Ministry of Education. And the result of successful work with children does not take long to expect when parents and teachers, in unity of aspirations, views and ways to successfully achieve goals, act as allies.
