Patriotic education of the younger generation is one of the main priorities in the work of educational institutions of the country. An important place in improving the system of patriotic education of children and students was taken by search and research activities to establish the names of those who died during the Great Patriotic War, places of unrecorded burial places, and perpetuate heroic memory.

The achievement of the goal is possible by the solution of specific problems. Those are the formation of patriotic and spiritual and moral qualities among the children, formation of national self-consciousness on the examples of military and labor exploits of the Belarusian people. Preservation of historical memory and study of the country's documentary heritage about the events of the Great Patriotic War through the study and popularization of the history of the small motherland can’t be missed. Then is activation of the search movement of students, as well as the further development of cooperation between educational institutions and state institutions and public organizations in the study of the history of the Great Patriotic War.

It should be noted that this work is ongoing. Now in Belarus, in educational institutions from July to November, events of the republican patriotic action “We will keep their feat in the memory of descendants” are taking place.

The organizer of the action is the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus. Organizational and methodological support is provided by the Republican Center for Ecology and Local History.

Among the participants are children and youth, creative teams of institutions of general secondary education, vocational and secondary specialized education, additional education for children and youth. There are two age categories: 12-15 and 16-18 years old.

The events are organized in two stages: the first stage - in educational institutions, including educational institutions of the regional (Minsk city) and republican subordination; the second stage is the republican (final). Representatives of educational institutions of republican subordination may take part at this stage.

The patriotic action takes place in thematic nominations.

In the nomination “We remember the names of heroes”, participants submit a research work on a feat at the front or in the rear, committed by a Belarusian fellow countrymen or a representative of another nation who lived on the territory of the author’s settlement. A presentation of research papers by students is also planned within the framework of the conference in an online format.

In the nomination “Touch the feat of the hero” a project of a social action is provided, the conduct of which is aimed at perpetuating and preserving the memory of the Great Patriotic War, the participation of fellow countrymen in it, promoting the heroism and courage of the Belarusian people, the idea of counteracting wars and preserving peace. The project is based on materials on the organization and conduct of various information and educational events on a given topic.

Among the criteria for evaluation by the jury members are the content, logic and consistency of the presentation of the material; research skills and analytical approach; historical authenticity.

The final stage is held in 2 rounds: the first (correspondence) - qualifying, the second - will be held in the form of a conference in an online format.

Within the framework of the conference, participants must present their research work during an individual presentation, accompanied by a multimedia presentation or video, as well as other illustrative material, including photographs of objects, booklets, maps, diagrams, drawings, documents, museum items.

To sum up the results of the action at the final stage, a jury is created, which evaluates the submitted works and determines the winners and prize-winners.
