Team Belarus took part in the 15th European Girls’ Mathematical Olympiad (EGMO) that was held in Bordeaux, France from 9 to 15 April.

EGMO is an annual competition being held since 2012. Participating countries send their teams of four girls mathematicians of school age. The Olympiad itself spans across two days and each day there are three math problems to solve.

The first Olympiad took place in Cambridge with 16 European and three guest countries participating.

EGMO is an international Mathematical competition that resembles International Mathematical Olympiad in its format.

Team Belarus entered the Olympiad in 2013 and is an active participant since, doing quite well. Our country has already hosted an Olympiad when Minsk was chosen for the role in 2015.

This year 67 countries took part and there were 161 girls participating.

Following their participation, all members of the Belarusian team were awarded medals. A silver medal went to Evgeniya Maslennikova, an 11th-grade student at Grodno State Educational Institution "Gymnasium No. 3 named after O.I. Solomova." Bronze medals went to Stefaniya Shuturminskaya and Maria Narbina, 11th-grade students at Minsk State Educational Institution "Gymnasium No. 41 named after V.Kh. Serebryany," and Alexandra Sakharchuk, an 11th-grade student at Brest State Educational Institution "Gymnasium No. 1 named after the Defenders of the Brest Fortress."

The team leaders are Dmitry Fedorovich Bazylev, head of the Department of Geometry, Topology, and Methods of Teaching Mathematics at the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of the Belarusian State University, candidate of physical and mathematical sciences, and Matvey Yuryevich Zorko, a third-year student at the Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science of the Belarusian State University.
