Around 70 teams and more than 300 quiz-machines. A quiz tournament “Defender of the Fatherland” dedicated to the Belarusian Armed Forces took place in Minsk. The competitive spirit united students of general secondary and secondary vocational institutions of learning and military patriotic clubs competed as well.

Of course, it is impossible to deny the fact that the side-events were quite captivating and rich in knowledge. Thusly, a BNTU branch “Minsk State Polytech College” held an exhibition of military awards and ranks collected by representatives of the “Belarusian Union of Afghanistan War Veterans”. Our bright students saw the fabulous exhibition during breaks between second stage battles.

The third stage took place on the grounds of middle school № 226 of Minsk. In this quiz-drill event team captains took on the intellectual obstacle course to show their knowledge and reaction on situational tasks. Successful completion of the tasks given helped to cement the knowledge in the “Pre-conscription and medical training” academic subject.

In addition, a career guidance exhibition on military specialties, advanced equipment and technologies was open to the attention of everyone in the main source of officer personnel of the Military Academy of the Republic of Belarus and the Institute of Border Guard Service. The tournament participants also gained a lot of useful information on the theory of diplomacy, practical negotiation techniques, strategy and tactics of military science, and the basics of disaster medicine.

The organizers of the intellectual tournament are the Minsk City Institute for Educational Development with the support and in close cooperation with the Institute of Border Guard Service of the Republic of Belarus, the Military Academy of the Republic of Belarus, the Military Medical Institute of BSMU, the military faculties of BSUIR and BNTU, the state educational institution "Academy of Education" of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus , public associations “Belarusian Union of Officers” and “Belarusian Union of Afghanistan War Veterans”, capital educational institutions.

Following the results of the tournament the key tasks and goals have been achieved. These include instilling of patriotism and civic-mindedness among young people as well as a feeling of proud for the heroic past of our country, proud for state symbols and defenders of our Fatherland.

The solemn award ceremony is about to take place in Middle school № 30 of Minsk March 15.
