Belarus has 42 state institutions of higher education subordinate to 12 ministries and departments as well as 8 private institutions of higher education.
Students can choose between 387 specialties of the first stage of education and 159 from the second stage. Constant work is underway to strengthen the practice-oriented training of specialists with higher education. Cooperation with organizations - customers of personnel is developing. The Ministry’s experts told about the development of higher education and changes into the admission rules.
First Deputy Minister of Education Alexander Bakhanovich said that the numbers of admission to universities and colleges be announced by April 1. It was noted that approaches are now being finalized: "This is a very delicate, painstaking work: it is necessary to link all sectors of the economy, all levels of education." It is planned that the target admission figures for the budget will remain at the level of approximately the previous year, with a slight bias towards those specialties for which there is a shortage of personnel, and towards the regions.
The number of vacant places for paid programs will remain almost the same. The Ministry expects high competition for IT and medicine specialties, however, they believe that pedagogy will not be lagging behind the two leaders. “We did a lot to support teachers, for example: pedagogical classes and an opportunity to apply for a part-time education and take no exams, - says Alexander Bakhanovich.
It is important to know that there are no not-demanded specialties in our country, thanks to the colossal work done on analysis of the world tendencies and development of industries. “Speaking about budget form of education, we see competition for every single specialty”- emphasized the First Deputy-Minister.
Medalists can choose from a wider range of specialties, demanded in the national economy and enter without competition. Today we offer 53 such specialties.
According to experts, school students want to attend a targeted training, especially for medicine and pedagogy specialties. There are also dozens of opportunities to find a place for future job during the admission period. All applicants need to do is to attend the targeted training fares, held on the university basis. This fare is a good opportunity to chat with the representatives of the real sector of the economy.
Moreover, a special trajectory of admission is open for targeted. For example, this year they will take one oral internal exam in the first specialized subject, and the deadlines for the admission campaign for them are allocated as a separate stage. Applicants-targeted students must submit documents and pass an interview from June 1 to June 5. The entrance test for them will take place from 6 to 13 June. This category of applicants to universities will become students by June 16.
For medical specialties, enrollment for targeted training will be up to 80%, in the agro-industrial complex - up to 70%, and for a number of other specialties - up to 60% of the enrollment targets.
By the way, today all restrictions on targeted training are no longer active: any enterprise and any organization can order targeted students.
