November 29, a meeting of the Council for Sustainable Development takes place in “Victoria Olymp Hotel” in Minsk.

Topic for discussion: "On the rights of people with disabilities, their social rehabilitation and the formation of an inclusive society."

The event is attended by representatives of government bodies, public associations of people with disabilities, and UN agencies working in Belarus.

When the floor was passed to the Deputy Minister of Education Alexander Kadlubay, he noted that one of the main achievements in the field of education is, undoubtedly and proudly, the established comprehensive system of support for children with special needs and their families from birth until they receive vocational education. The system is ensured by the interaction of the education, healthcare and social protection, inclusion of public associations in solving pressing issues.

One of the department’s priorities is the development of inclusive vocational education, because obtaining high-quality vocational education allows one to expand the opportunities for socialization, employment, self-realization and career growth of people with disabilities. The formation of an inclusive culture for all participants in the educational process remains to be an important issue.

The Deputy Minister of Education emphasized that the implementation of the principle of inclusion in education is a long-term strategy, considered not as a local area of work, but as a systematic approach to organizing the activities of the education system in all areas as a whole.

“Inclusion in education affects all subjects of the educational process: children, their parents, teachers, specialists, administration, structures of additional education. By further ensuring the solution of pressing issues raised today, we will generally ensure the realization of every citizen’s right to education, regardless of people’s disabilities, their type and severity,” Alexander Kadlubay is convinced.

Participants will also discuss comprehensive socio-economic support for people with disabilities; activities of public associations of disabled people to support people with disabilities in interaction with government bodies; promoting digital inclusion of people with disabilities.
