The Ministry of Education held an expanded meeting on improving the organization of the final certification of graduates of general secondary education institutions and the entrance campaign to higher education institutions.

The meeting was attended by: Deputy Head of the Administration of the President of the Republic of Belarus I.V. Lutsky, Deputy Prime Minister I.V. Petrishenko, Chairman of the Commission on Culture, Education and Science of the Council of the Republic I.A. Starovoitova, Chairman of the Central Election Commission I.V. Karpenko , deputy heads of regional executive committees, heads of regional education departments, rectors of higher education institutions as well as representatives of the pedagogical community.

On behalf of the Head of State, the decision was to analyze the progress of final exams and the entrance campaign. The task was to see the applicant and objectively and transparently examine his knowledge.

Minister of Education Andrei Ivanets dwelled in detail on the implementation of the instructions of the Head of State, spoke about achievements and how the Ministry coped with the task.

Special attention was given to identifying gifted and motivated applicants and providing them with additional opportunities for admission to higher education institutions.

More than 4 thousand school and college graduates entered universities without entrance examinations. About 13 thousand motivated applicants and college graduates entered their chosen specialties. Subject commissions managed to “see” about 17 thousand applicants who became students based on the results of internal exams.

One might say, the innovations of this year's entrance campaign began with the holding of university Olympiads. In February - March, university and republican stages of subject Olympiads took place and the winners received the right to enter without tests.

For the first time in the republic, centralized exams took place for graduates of general secondary education institutions (one in Russian or Belarusian languages, second one depending on person’s choice). After summing up the results of the final exams and discussing them with the teaching and parental community, the generally positive format of the CE was noted and the dates for their holding in 2024 were adjusted. It is proposed to conduct the CE on Monday, May 27, in an elective subject, and on Thursday, May 30, in the Russian or Belarusian language.

Enrollment in the target form of training also took place in a new format. A special admission procedure has been developed for “target” applicants. Instead of the CT, they took one internal exam in the core subject of their specialty. The deadlines for submitting documents also changed: target students did it earlier than everyone else, and took the entrance exams earlier too. The stages of the admissions campaign were planned so that those young people who did not qualify for the target places were able to participate in the general competition by enrolling in budget or paid education. The chances of admission could be doubled in this regard.

The format for organizing targeted enrollment in 2024 is expected to remain unchanged: conducting an internal entrance test at higher education institutions; inclusion of teaching staff from institutions of general secondary education in subject commissions.

Today at the meeting, the entrance campaign to universities of the republic was comprehensively discussed and parties determined directions for further improvement next year.
