July 31, the Ministry of Education hosted a meeting between the Deputy Minister of Education Alexander Kadlubay and the UNDP Resident Representative in Belarus, Ms. Alexandra Solovieva. The visit to the department is all about the end of the mission of the UNDP Resident Representative in Belarus.

During the meeting, the participants summed up the results of cooperation between the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus and the United Nations Development Program in Belarus.

Among the successful results of joint activities is the educational project "Green Schools", which has been implemented in our country since 2018 in order to introduce a new effective educational model in the field of environmental education. From 2018 to 2021, republican resource centers, auxiliary resource centers for "green schools", environmental monitoring clubs were created in each region - a total of 18 pilot sites.

Weather stations, gas analyzers, pH meters, conductometers, snow gauges and other laboratory equipment necessary for environmental monitoring was purchased for the pilot sites.

The project is currently coordinated by the Ministry of Education in cooperation with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection.

The activities of the educational project "Green Schools" are quite extensive - more than 600 educational institutions from all regions of Belarus are in it, and 304 educational institutions of the country have the status of "green school".

The function of the main resource center is performed by the Republican Center for Ecology and Local History. It was on its basis that in September 2021 the republican youth forum "Green Economy - a Successful Future" took place, within the framework of which a discussion took place with the students of the country of the draft National Action Plan for the Development of the "Green" Economy for 2021-2025. Young ecologists made their constructive proposals for inclusion in the National Plan.

Among other key positions of successful joint activities with UNDP in Belarus is the project of international technical assistance "Development of the innovative potential of youth for accelerated sustainable development of Belarus" (Ministry of Education, EI "Republican Institute of Vocational Education"), developed for 3 years. The project is based on improving conditions for the development of new professional skills and competencies by young people in the context of the digital transformation of the Belarusian economy; advanced training of teachers and masters of industrial training in order to ensure the use of innovative methods and technologies to improve vocational education and training; modernizing competency centers in vocational education and training to provide an inclusive and effective educational environment that contributes to the development of young people's knowledge and skills for work in industries focused on the widespread use of digital technologies (engineering, construction and agriculture).

It is worth mentioning, that cooperation with the United Nations Development Program in the Republic of Belarus in the field of youth policy is carried out within the framework of organizing and holding an open competition “Youth Ambassadors of the SDGs - the future of the planet is in our hands”, and a media festival “Voices of the Young for Sustainable Development”.

In 2023, the implementation of the joint project “Supporting the efforts of the Republic of Belarus in the nationalization and localization of the Sustainable Development Goals” for 2023-2024, the UNDP international technical assistance project “Developing the innovative potential of youth for accelerated sustainable development of Belarus” was organized.

Within the framework of the joint project, the development of training materials on the achievement of the SDGs was launched for their subsequent use in training programs for advanced training of managers and specialists, as well as curricula for training courses.

During the constructive dialogue held in the department, promising areas for further cooperation between the Ministry of Education and UNDP in Belarus were identified.

Ms. Alexandra Solovieva expressed hope for continued effective interaction. “UNDP will continue to support the efforts of Belarus in the implementation of key development priorities set out in state programs, as well as the National Strategy for Sustainable Development of the Republic of Belarus for the period up to 2035,” says Ms. Solovieva.

Deputy Minister of Education Alexander Kadlubay thanked the UNDP Representative in Belarus Alexander Solovieva for her cooperation and wished her successful projects in the future at her new place of work.
