National holiday of university graduates, Minsk, June 23. Education Minister revealed the key areas of the upcoming big fine-tuning in the higher education system. Let us recall that the need for adjustments was announced by the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko on June 20 during the award ceremony for the best graduates and teachers of universities.

Andrei Ivanets noted that modern education should be focused on training qualified specialists in demand in our country. Particular attention will be paid to improving the two-stage training system - bachelor's and master's degrees. According to him, university graduates should be ready for professional activity immediately after receiving their diploma.

A special role in this process is played by the master's degree, the approaches to which now require revision. Education Minister emphasized the importance of creating conditions for those who want to connect their lives with science: "If young people want to continue their scientific career, they should have the opportunity to do so immediately after graduating from university without additional artificial hurdles. Those students who aspire to become teachers should receive such an opportunity from their universities, especially if they have demonstrated outstanding academic results."

Andrei Ivanets also emphasized that for those who choose the path to science, it is necessary to maintain continuity: the transition from master's to postgraduate study, the defense of candidate and doctoral dissertations. Such a clear trajectory will allow us to form a strong scientific community capable of withstanding external challenges and contributing to the development of our country.

A high-level meeting on fine-tuning the education system is planned for the next month. Its main goal will be to determine priority areas from the point of view of national interests. In the context of sanctions pressure, it is especially important to honestly and openly identify which areas of specialist training are relevant in Belarus right now. It is expected that the implementation of these measures will be a strategic step in strengthening the intellectual potential of our country and will ensure the sustainable development of the education system in the new geopolitical realities.
