Minsk, 27 December - Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko attended a charity event for children within the framework of the Our Children campaign in Minsk on 27 December.

Aleksandr Lukashenko said that when on his way to the event he thought that it was the most difficult audience: “People here are very different. They are different in age, in their positions. They are members of the government, ministers, and ordinary schoolchildren who have just started schools. But all of us in this hall today have one thing in common as we all are anticipating our great beloved holiday - New Year”.

Attending the charity event are students of cadet schools and lyceums, winners of various Olympiads, creative contests and competitions, students who have excelled in public work, orphans, children from large families and refugee families. Also in attendance is a delegation from Latvia - pupils of the Riga Belarusian elementary school. They prepared a colorful performance called New Year Formula for the children.

“Life, this applies to children and adults, is always like a sailor's striped shirt. Lighter stripes rotate with darker ones. It means that if someone has certain struggles today, remember: a darker stripe always gives way to a lighter one in life,” the head of state said.

He advised the children to study hard, because they will need knowledge in their future life.

“You can't do without it. You see how complicated life has become. But you are small, young, still quite young. You have everything ahead of you; you have an open mind, not loaded with anything. Act, upload it with the knowledge that they try to teach you at school and university. You will need it very much in your future life. In order to make the right choice in the future life, you need to study today,” the Belarusian leader shared a piece of advice with children.

"In order to make the right choice in your future life, you need to do well at school. I understand that when you wake up in the morning, you do not want to go anywhere. The weather is bad, and you want to stay at home... I felt the same once, and your older friends and teachers too. But there is a word that became a buzzword recently: ‘must’. See, you must! You wake up and do not want to go anywhere, let alone study. But remember: you must do it! In order to make life easier later. This is why studying is hard, but you must do it. Because it is your foundation in life. Without this foundation you cannot have a proper adult life," the head of state said.

"If sometimes teachers and parents put too much pressure on you (telling you to study hard all the time), be patient. And remember that it is important. You must be patient!" Aleksandr Lukashenko gave the advice.
He emphasized that among the participants of the event, both children and adults have very different backgrounds. It is easier to study well for some of them, because they have more opportunities. Some also study very well, but compensating fewer opportunities for a great desire to gain knowledge.

"We will do our utmost to make sure that those children, who lack something, will have the same opportunities as others," the president assured.

The president addressed the warm words to teachers, without whom, among others, this holiday would not have happened. “It is they who, having given up their home chores and worries, helped you, helped me to get you here. They helped you to come to the Palace of the Republic, where we traditionally hold this bright holiday,” the president said addressing the children.

Speaking about adults, teachers and educators, Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that he knows from his own experience how difficult it is to work with children. But then it is very rewarding to see them achieve results that teachers and parents expect.

“Dear children, our dear patriots: teachers and educators! It is not because it is the pre-election time in the country. No, I sincerely think so. I wish you a Happy New Year,” the head of state said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko addressed not only those present in the hall of the Palace of the Republic but also the those who will see it on TV: “I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your creative labor, for your patience, for educating the future generation. I thank you very much. Please accept my most sincere wishes and congratulations on the coming holiday”.
