Belarusian universities are of high demand among foreigners

Published:15.02.2023

The Higher school of Belarus is of high demand not only among Belarusian youth. Students from more than one hundred countries learn in Belarus currently. This was stated by the chairman of the Republican Council of Rectors of Higher Education Institutions, Rector of BSUIR Vadim Bogush at the republican seminar "On the results of work on the development of exports of services in 2022 and prospects for 2023", which was held at the Belarusian State Economic University.

“During the council of rectors we discuss important questions related to the development of higher school in our country. Such as regulatory support, the content and quality of education, as well as the main vectors of its development. Today’s council is the next stage of discussion of a targeted work on export development in the education sphere. Currently students from more than one hundred countries study in Belarus at various education levels”. – said Vladimir Bogush.

According to Mr. Bogush, there is a huge contingent of students from Mainland China. “The quarantine in China was lifted and we hope we will be able to work in that direction. Our second direction is former Soviet countries, Middle Eastern ones, as a rule, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. There is a huge battle for a potential student in those countries. Our universities take an active part in exhibition activities and work directly with applicants. We also implement a large range of programs related to the implementation of online learning. These are either double-degree programs or joint programs. The new edition of the Education Code also provides a regulatory framework for such programs to be implemented,” said the rector of BSUIR.

Next perspective region is Africa. “They have got a specific request. They are aiming towards the English language programs, as a rule. Taking into consideration the visit of the President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko to Zimbabwe, this region is also perspective one, especially for the organization of academic cooperation and students training. I should like to say that many other African countries beside Zimbabwe, want to train their students as targeted specialists in Belarus. We have a few countries, whose citizen’s rights are almost equal to Belarusian ones. Their students can pass through centralized testing and competitions. These countries are Russia, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. There are students who came under intergovernmental agreements to study. There are students who came either within the framework of academic cooperation agreements between universities or by concluding appropriate agreements for study,” Vadim Bogush informed.
