Belarus has once again found itself in the center of world attention at a high intellectual level! Our national team made history, setting a record in the history of Belarus' participation in the XVIII International Geoscience Olympiad (IESO-2025), held from August 8 to 16 in the Chinese city of Jining.
Among the participants were about 130 talented schoolchildren from 31 countries, representing the best educational systems of the world. However, it was the Belarusian young geographers who became the stars of this large-scale event, winning 9 medals for the first time in history, a result that can rightfully be called historic!
Flawless result:
*2 gold medals
*3 silver medals
*4 bronze medals
Such an impressive success was possible thanks to the highest level of training, deep knowledge, analytical thinking and determination. Throughout the Olympiad, the participants underwent the most difficult tests: from solving complex theoretical problems to completing practical tasks in geology, meteorology, hydrology and geo-ecology. Particular attention was paid to team competitions - ESP (Earth System Project) and ITFI (International Team Field Investigation), where young scientists demonstrated not only individual abilities, but also the ability to work in a team, put forward hypotheses and defend scientific projects at the international level.
Congratulations to our champions!
* Alexander Shelkovsky - graduate of Mogilev State Regional Lyceum No. 1 (gold and bronze)
* Nikolay Misiyuk - graduate of Brest Gymnasium No. 2 (gold and silver)
* Elizaveta Tsovko - graduate of Gymnasium No. 1 named after Defenders of the Brest Fortress (two silver and bronze)
*Alexey Klimko — graduate of K.K. Rokossovsky Secondary School No. 118, Minsk (two bronze)
All four have already started their journey in higher education as they became first-year students at BSU.
We sincerely thank Dmitry Kurlovich, First Vice-Rector of BSU, and Elena Kolmakova, Dean of the Faculty of Geography and Geoinformatics at BSU, for their professional leadership, strategic vision, and tireless work to prepare the team. Your experience, dedication, and faith in students were key factors in success.
Special words of gratitude to the teachers and parents of young geniuses. It was you who supported their interest in science from the very beginning, inspired them to make discoveries, and helped them reach their goals.
This is not just a victory - it is the pride of the nation
Such achievements are not accidental. This is the result of the high level of our national education, which values intelligence, critical thinking and the pursuit of knowledge. Belarus continues to prove that its students are capable of competing with the best in the world and win.
Each medal is a step towards new scientific discoveries, development and a deeper understanding of our planet. A victory at IESO-2025 is not the end, but the beginning of a long journey.
Forward to new heights!
Let this triumph inspire thousands of Belarusian schoolchildren! Let everyone know: with talent, hard work and the support of their native country, you can conquer all heights from school classroom to international podium.
We are proud of our champions!
