Dubai, (UAE) 14 July, the results of the International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO 2025) were summed up in Dubai (UAE). All participants of the national team of Belarus returned home with medals, 2 silver and 2 bronze in all.
The International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) is an annual academic competition for high school students. It is one of the most prestigious International Science Olympiads. The first IChO was held in Prague, Czechoslovakia, in 1968. The event has been held every year since then, with the exception of 1971. The delegations that attended the first events were mostly countries of the former Eastern bloc and it was not until 1980, the 12th annual International Chemistry Olympiad, that the event was held outside of the bloc in Austria. Up to 4 students for each national team compete around July in theoretical and experimental sections, with about half of the participants awarded medals.
This year, 1000 schoolchildren from 90 countries took part in the competition. Based on the results of the Olympiad, 220 medals were awarded, including:
40 gold medals (the best 12% of participants),
72 silver medals (the next 22%),
108 bronze medals (another 32%).
Also, 10% of the best participants who were not among the prize winners were noted with commendable reviews.
The Belarusian team was formed from among the winners of the final stage of the Natonal Chemistry Olympiad 2025. The participants were trained by the staff of the Chemistry Department of BSU under the guidance of the Dean Alexander Zuraev.
Congratulations to the winners and prize winners!
Silver medals went to:
Maria Brutskaya, a graduate of the F.E. Dzerzhinsky Lyceum of BSU;
Andrey Efremov, a graduate of the Mogilev State Regional Lyceum No. 1.
Bronze medals were awarded to:
Vladislav Korotkov, a graduate of Gymnasium No. 12 in Minsk;
Pyotr Burak, a graduate of Gymnasium No. 10 in Molodechno.
Our country continues to strengthen its position in the international arena, demonstrating a high level of training of young chemists. We thank the teachers, mentors, team leaders and educational institutions for their contribution to the preparation of the participants.
We wish our talented schoolchildren new victories, development in science and the realization of their ambitions for the benefit of their native Belarus!
