
September 28, for 8-11 grade students every institution of learning conducts a single information hour in the frames of an educational project “School of active citizen”.
The topic for discussion is “Motherland Belarus in persons. From funny competitions to Olympic games” (Legends and heroes of sport, development of sport and tourism industry).
The focus of the discussion is Belarus in the global sports community; physical education and health work with the population, development of mass sports; Belarusian athletes at the II CIS Games, pride in their country, development of interest in various sports; tourism in the Republic of Belarus.
Using the interactive quiz “We Will Find Out,” high school students will test their knowledge about the development of sports and tourism in the Republic of Belarus.
The game offers five questions: “What indicates that people’s health, the development of physical culture and sports is a priority area of social policy in the Republic of Belarus?” “What do you think is the significance of the 2nd Commonwealth Games for athletes of the CIS countries in general and Belarus in particular?” “How did our Belarusian team during the 2nd CIS Games? Name Belarusian athletes who glorified the Republic of Belarus with their achievements during the games”; “Why do you think the development of tourism is given special importance in the socio-economic life (development) of our country?”; “Who won the first Olympic medal in the history of Belarusian women’s freestyle?”
The first student to raise his hand after the signal may answer. Other participants can expand on the topic.
During the information hour, the children will also receive knowledge from government officials and eminent Belarusian athletes that over the years of Belarusian independence the country has firmly established itself among the leaders of the international Olympic movement and is among the twenty strongest sports powers in the world. Sport in our country fulfills a number of socially significant missions. Sport is the foundation of the nation’s health, a school of courage, a source of the best human qualities and one of the most important forms of educating the younger generation.
According to statistics, more than 2 million Belarusians are systematically involved in physical education and sports, and this is over 22% of the total population. Every year, about 22 thousand sporting events take place in the country for adherents of a healthy lifestyle. The Belarusian Ski Track, the All-Belarusian Physical Culture and Sports Festival dedicated to Independence Day, and the Minsk Half Marathon have already become traditional. The system of republican sectoral sports competitions is now operating again. Children and teenagers actively take part in various sports tournaments.
To train professional athletes, there are training centers in Belarus, including the Belarusian State University of Physical Culture, Olympic reserve schools, specialized Olympic reserve schools, and children's and youth sports schools. Young athletes are trained by 464 physical education and sports organizations, including 11 Olympic reserve secondary schools and 453 specialized educational and sports institutions.
In total, future athletes are training in 28 Olympic sports and 36 sports that are not included in the program of the main competitions of the four-year period.
By the way, throughout the history of independent Belarus, 280 natives of our country have become world and European champions in many sports. The sporting achievements of Belarusian athletes at international competitions and the Olympic Games allowed the whole world to learn about our country. Belarus has also become known as a place of agricultural tourism as well as ecological and medical ones.
