Belarusian team made history at the 21st International Geography Olympiad 2025 in Oriental Bangkok, Thailand. Nikolai Misiuk, Brest Gymnasia #2 graduate, beat all his rivals to become absolute victor and is now the best young geographer in the entire world.

Counting Nikolai, there were 180 high school students from 47 countries. Nikolai did very well and he is the first absolute winner representing Belarus. No other Belarusian has ever done that. The team had 3 more members, Elizaveta Tsovko, Alexander Shelkovsky, they both achieved high scores, and Alexei Klimko of Minsk school #118 named after K.K. Rokosovsky. Alexei won silver medal.

Contestants had to pass 3 stages: multimedia test, theory and field exam on Ko Kret island. The participants solved complex problems on relevant topics from water stress and energy transition to urbanization and migration. All tasks were in English and required a high level of fluency and analytical training.

BSU specialists under the leadership of First Vice-Rector Dmitry Kurlovich and Dean of the Faculty of Geography and Geoinformatics Elena Kolmakova led the team to victory. Special thanks for Nikolai's success goes to his mentor and geography teacher Yulia Bogdasarova.

This victory shows the high level of Belarusian education and inspires thousands of schoolchildren. Congratulations to the entire team, their teachers and parents! Belarus feels proud and they made new step towards world scientific heights.
