Belarusian lyceum students and university students demonstrate knowledge at the Open International Astronomical Olympiad

Belarusian team is partaking in the International Open Astronomical Olympiad that is taking place on the federal territory “Syrius” (Sochi, Russia). The event will span through a ten-day period from November 14 to 22 and its supporter is Syrius Education Center which helps students to develop.

The working language of the Olympiad is English and it is open for participants from 14 countries: Abhazia, Bangladesh, Belarus, Bulgaria, Venezuela, Iran, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Cuba, Peru, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and South Africa.

Belarussian team members are:

Dmitry Grin, 11 grade student of the Belarusian State University Lyceum;

Aleksei Kontsevenko, a graduate of the Gomel City Lyceum No. 1, a freshman of the faculty of applied mathematics and informatics of BSU;

Viktor Bubich, a graduate of the Rechitsky Regional Lyceum, a freshman of the faculty of computer systems amd networks of BSUIR;

Kirill Vusov, 11 grade student of the Belarusian-Russian Lyceum named after L.E.Manevich;

Alexandra Protsyk, a graduate of the Belarussian National Technical University Lyceum, a freshman of the physics faculty of BSU;

Matvei Polivatov, 11 grade student of Lyceum No. 1 named after academician Yu.M.Ostrovsky, Grodno.

Team leaders are – Kazimir Znosko, Associate Professor of the Department of Theoretical Physics and Thermal Engineering of the Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno, Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Associate Professor and Igor Maslov, Director of the State Educational Institution "Lyceum No. 1 named after Academician Yu.M. Ostrovsky, Grodno".

This Olympiad is a newly established one, it consists of the best astronomic traditions and it gathered prominent experts from all over of the world.

The competition has 4 stages: Observation, Practice, Theoretic and Test ones. The tasks were set by the Academic Commission whose members are representatives of various countries.

A diverse cultural program is about to take place as well, thusly: lectures, master-classes and tours as well as meetings with cosmonauts-researchers.
