Belarus-Zimbabwe: new impetus to bilateral cooperation in education

From May 8 to May 18, 2023, a delegation representing educational institutions and organizations of the Republic of Zimbabwe, headed by the Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Professor Amon Murvira, is on official visit to the Republic of Belarus.

The Zimbabwean delegation includes heads of departments of the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary, Science and Technology Development of the Republic of Zimbabwe, heads of the National Geospatial and Space Agency, the Center for Education, Innovative Research and Development, heads and teachers of universities and colleges of the Republic of Zimbabwe.

During the official visit, the delegation has already went to the National Academy of Sciences, the Minsk Radio Engineering College, the Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics, the Belarusian State University, the Belarusian State Technological University, the Brest State Technical University. They also went to the Competence Center in the field of ecology, power and power efficiency of the EcoTechnoPark-Volma that is a branch of the Republican Institute of Vocational Education. Competence Center for Car Service and Electric Vehicles of the branch "Minsk State Automotive College named after Academician M.S. Vysotsky" of RIPO, museums and laboratories of the Belarusian State Medical University all facilities received the delegates as well.

Following the results of the visit of the delegation of the Republic of Zimbabwe to our country, more than 40 bilateral agreements in the field of education will be signed.

According to the Minister of Education Andriy Ivanets, these agreements are a very solid legal basis for training specialists for a wide range of specialties in industry, agro-industrial complex, healthcare, and energy. “In this regard, we expect that our educational institutions will implement a training program not only for specialists at the level of higher education, but also solid agreements will be reached on the creation of centers of competence in Zimbabwe to train specialists in blue-collar professions”.

In addition, Belarus has a wide range of distance learning opportunities. The Minister of Education is convinced that the use of information and communication technologies significantly reduces the difficulties that may arise due to the distance between the two countries.

“We continue to develop cooperation in the directions set by the heads of our states. We strive to work in areas where Belarus and Zimbabwe have much in common. We want to cooperate in the fields of technology, science and innovation and Belarusian experience in this field is high. Our country is full of mineral resources and human potential. We strive for technological independence and industrialization. In this regard, we want to cooperate with Belarus, because the country is a leader in terms of the quality of education,” summed up Amon Murvira.
