A parliamentary delegation of the Sultanate of Oman headed by the head of the parliamentary friendship group between the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Belarus Said Mubarak al-Muharrami is on an official visit to our country.

Oman is the most important partner of Belarus in the Middle East. Our relations with this country are successfully developing in many areas, including trade, economic and investment cooperation.

Cooperation in the field of education is also promising. Today, promising areas of cooperation between the Republic of Belarus and the Sultanate of Oman were discussed at the Ministry of Education.

During the meeting of the First Deputy Minister of Education Alexander Bakhanovich with the head of the parliamentary delegation Said Mubarak al-Muharrami, it was noted that regular work is being carried out in the Republic of Belarus to establish contacts with universities and organizations of the Sultanate of Oman.

Thus, this year, 11 Belarusian educational institutions sent letters with proposals for establishing mutually beneficial cooperation and sent information about educational opportunities for citizens of the Sultanate of Oman. During the meeting, the Belarusian side expressed the hope that today's visit of the parliamentary delegation of the Sultanate of Oman to Minsk will accelerate these proposals.

The possibility of participation of Belarusian educational institutions in the XX International Exhibition on Higher Education, Training and Career Development “EduTraC Oman” (Muscat), which will be held in October 2023, is being considered,” the representative of the Belarusian department said.

During a meaningful conversation, Alexander Bakhanovich also noted the positive dynamics of the work of the Omani Center for Arabic Language and Culture of BSU, whose activities are aimed at scientific and methodological support for the teaching of the Arabic language, holding competitions, electives for students studying Arabic, master classes in translation, seminars and round tables.

This Omani Center regularly hosts meetings of the club of Arabic translators, elective classes in dialects of the Arabic language for students of BSU and all comers, meetings of students studying Arabic and teachers of the Department of Linguistics and Regional Studies of the East by representatives of the Sultanate of Oman.

“It is noteworthy that in December 2019 an Arabic language contest was organized, and today a lecture by Professor Said Mubarak al-Muharrami is scheduled at the Oman Center for Arabic Language and Culture of BSU,” says the First Deputy Minister of Education.

The following areas of cooperation were identified as promising areas: development of joint educational programs; academic exchange of scientists between universities; organization of summer and winter schools for students; conducting short-term and long-term Russian language courses, including those with the possibility of distance learning using information technology; training and retraining of teachers of the Sultanate of Oman on a contract basis.

“I am convinced that our cooperation will be fruitful. We want direct interaction and work for a concrete result for the benefit of the development of the economies of the two countries,” Alexander Bakhanovich stated.

In turn, Said Mubarak al-Muharrami also outlined a further vector: "We are very interested in cooperation in the field of education, exchange of teachers, joint research, strengthening of cultural ties between our countries, which allow us to contribute to the relations between our peoples."

Among the proposals voiced at the meeting are the opportunity to establish contacts between the faculties of the universities of the two countries and obtaining grants for education in Belarus.

The result of the meeting was the confidence of its participants that all relevant areas of cooperation in the near future will be successfully implemented.
