The visit to the PRC of the delegation led by the Minister of Education of Belarus began with a visit to the “birthplace of Chinese diplomacy” - Beijing Foreign Studies University. At a meeting with the rector of the Beijing Foreign Studies University, Jia Wenjian, Andrei Ivanets discussed the prospects for cooperation on issues of coordinating the activities of centers for the study of Belarus operating on the basis of Chinese universities, and cooperation with Belarusian institutions of higher education.

Jia Wenjian gratefully supported the proposal of the head of the Belarusian educational department to entrust the Beijing Foreign Languages University with the functions of a body coordinating the activities of centers for the study of Belarus in Chinese universities. Jia Wenjian immediately enlisted the support of representatives of the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China present at the meeting and said that the university would make all necessary efforts to fulfill the functions of a coordinating body and would soon present specific proposals for the development of this type of activity.

In addition, Jia Wenjian supported the initiatives of the Minsk State Linguistic University to create a joint educational master's program in translation and create a branch of the department of Beijing Foreign Languages University at MSLU with the aim of introducing into the educational process of advanced technologies for teaching Chinese.

The leaders of the Beijing Foreign Studies University announced initiatives that found support from the Belarusian side. For example, we are talking about the possibility of participation of students from Belarus (up to two people annually) at the expense of the Chinese side in the included learning project as part of the “Discover China” project. It is also planned to consider the issue of creating, jointly with one of the leading universities in our country, a center for the study of humanitarian cooperation between Belarus and China.

Andrei Ivanets expressed his readiness to organize short-term programs for specialists from the Beijing Foreign Studies University, including sending Belarusian teachers to the Chinese university. This will contribute to the development of the study of Belarusian language and culture at Beijing Foreign Studies University.

The meeting was also attended by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to China Alexander Chervyakov and representatives of the Embassy. During the visit, Andrei Ivanets also visited the Center for the Study of Belarus, which operates at the Beijing Foreign Studies University. There, the Minister of Education of Belarus enjoyed the artistic numbers prepared by Chinese students in the Belarusian language and donated objects of decorative and applied art, methodological and fiction literature written the Belarusian language.

On May 21, negotiations will take place between the Ministers of Education of Belarus and China as well a meeting with the rector of Beijing University and Belarusian students studying there.
